Granger grew up in Idaho, and one hour after graduating from high school became a full time musician. Next came a music scholarship to the University of Miami School of Music, and after graduation he joined Doppler Studios. Experienced in architectural design and drafting, Granger has supplied working drawings to contractors for five of Doppler’s studio renovations. Due to years of experience he has worked on almost every kind of audio session imaginable. His interests are many and he has one wife and two boys
Joe started working for Doppler Studios in 1971, pulling dubs, and cleaning up (literally). He worked a stint at MasterSound Studios in Atlanta, working with legends like Dionne Warwick and Isaac Hayes, before going freelance and commuting to Nashville. In 1983, Joe rejoined the Doppler team as a staff engineer. Joe is now in charge of all technical aspects of Doppler, including installation and maintenance of Doppler’s gear and IT duties. He also enjoys his out-of-control hobby of recording on location with Sam’s Tape Truck.
Shawn has played in bands ranging from Colombian hair metal to lounge lizard Tiki. He brings a voracious love of sound and genre-spanning creativity to his work, be it compositional (jingles, scoring, “Weird Al” style parodies & soundalikes), or in sound design, sweetening and 5.1 surround mixing for broadcast television. He is also an accomplished ADR recordist, working on numerous feature films.
As a child, after sourly accepting the reality that piloting Airwolf or driving KITT were not potential career opportunities, Michael turned his attention to radio, and the joy of making mix-tapes… cassette style. As fate would have it, while living in Charleston, SC an opportunity to live out some of these childhood fascinations presented itself as he spent two years working on-air and in production for 98Rock, serving up the classic rock that had shaped his youth. With an expanded interest, Michael left Charleston for Full Sail University in Florida before returning home to Atlanta to pursue a job with Doppler. During his time here, Michael says he most enjoys the variety of projects he is given the opportunity to be a part of and the people that he meets in the process.
John comes to us from Birmingham, AL (Roll Tide!). After completing “the boring classes” at the University of Alabama, he wasn’t sure what to do next. From his early teen years, he always had an interest in writing / playing music, then later, recording it. Around this time, he found out one could actually study audio recording in school! So in 1993, he enrolled at Middle Tennessee State University, transferring into their Recording Industry Management program. It was there that he discovered an internship program with Doppler Studios. After graduation, he joined his family living in Atlanta and pestered the owners of Doppler, until they hired him. During his time here, he’s risen through the ranks to be one of the “old timers” who’s seen and done it all. He works with a steady stream of loyal clients who enjoy his laid-back nature, technical know-how and command of movie trivia!
Steve has been at Doppler for 25 years, and grew up outside Detroit and Philadelphia, before spending his high school years in France. He studied Music Engineering at the University of Miami, and plays a wide variety of musical instruments very poorly. He worked with many high profile recording artists in his younger days, but now prefers to work during daylight hours. Steve is married to the lovely saxophonist Amy Lee, and they live in Decatur with the cutest dog in the world.
